Here is a list of retail stores and cafes in Singapore that will absorb the increased Goods and Services Tax (GST) amount of 9%.
While not exhaustive, it’s a great starter list for you.

Overrice
Located at 41 Sultan Gate, the Mediterranean rice bowl experts in Singapore have pledged to maintain their prices as stated in their Instagram post on 6 January as a promise to keep things affordable.

The Japanese-Italian eating house, Saizeriya, aims to keep its promise of maintaining impeccable food quality with imported ingredients while ensuring customers won’t bear the burden of GST.

Brotherbird Bakehouse
Famous for its Instagram-able croissants, the Brotherbird Bakehouse will absorb 2% of the 9% GST in 2024 on customer’s bills.

There are also restaurants that do not charge GST. Some of these are:
Ichi Umai
Located in Yishun Junction Nine, the hole-in-the-wall Japanese eatery Ichi Umai will continue to absorb GST. No service charge will be imposed. The restaurant aims to provide Japanese food at affordable prices.

Yakiniku Like
This restaurant chain known for its affordable Yakiniku sets and individual grilled dishes, commented that they will continue not to have both GST and service charges in their customers’ bills.

River Ash Bakery
The bakery known for specialising in trendy cakes and desserts does not charge their consumers GST or a service fee for their purchases.

Supermarkets absorbing GST
Giant
Giant has absorbed the newly implemented 9% GST for essential items until June 2024. This will be for 700 essential products which cover fresh produce, personal care and household essentials.
Giant will also be giving a 4% senior citizens discount storewide which will last throughout 2024.
NTUC Fairprice
Fairprice has absorbed the 1% GST increase across 500 essential goods for the first 6 months of 2024.
Fresh produce, meat, dairy, cleaning and paper products are also included on this list.
Sheng Siong
Until the end of March 2024, Sheng Siong will be introducing a 1% discount for its products. Items excluded from this programme are infant formula, tobacco, alcohol, medicinal products and devices, disposable carrier bag charges and phone cards.
The 4% discount for senior citizens will be extended until the end of the year.
Shops absorbing GST
IKEA
Swedish furniture giant IKEA will be absorbing the 1% increase in GST and maintaining it at 8%. No end date has been given for their promotion.
IKEA is committed to keeping prices low where possible during challenging times. They did this in 2023 when they absorbed the 1% increase of GST from 7% to 8%.
Decathlon
Mega sports chain Decathlon will be absorbing the increase in GST as well. Well known for their well-priced house brand items, they live up to their promise of making sports accessible to all.
Changi Airport Group
You do not have to purchase an air ticket to shop at the retail stores on the Departure floor.
Changi Rewards members do not pay GST for many popular brands like Godiva, Cosmetics and Perfumes by Shila, Kidztime! and Eu Yan Sang.
