Working Across Generations
Collaboration across generations was the driving message for silvers in the first SilverStreak discussion, Turning Silver Into Gold.
The hour-long session featured jazz pianist and composer Prof Jeremy Monteiro, the CEO of PreceptsGroup International, Lee Chiwi, and Laletha Nithiyanandan, Executive Director at the BOP Hub. It was moderated by the Editor of SilverStreak.sg Kannan Chandran.
Considering the amount of time he has left on this planet, Cultural Medallion winner Jeremy acknowledges the need for greater acceptance of the role of the younger generation in building society. But he also recognises the importance of imparting experience and knowledge, especially in collaborative ventures that help to unite generations.
Allow more opportunities for discussion across generations on a variety of issues, was Laletha’s advice to the silver community in attendance and the live-stream audience on Facebook.
Chiwi wakes up each day looking forward to the appointments he’s made. And he encourages other silvers to have an agenda and purpose in life; to meet old friends and explore new opportunities.

All three panellists have learnt to build friendships with their children, which also helps to strengthen the family bonds.
One area to take advantage of is accepting that technology is a great enabler that allows for greater efficiency and more opportunities for communication and interaction.
Engaging in activities that give back to the community will also help those who are trying to find their way in their later years, and developing inter-generational projects would help reduce ageism as understanding grows between the generations, reckon the panellilsts.
